AI Visibility Index · B2B SaaS DACH

When AI picks the shortlist, who does it name?

The AI Visibility Index ranks which B2B SaaS vendors ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews cite and recommend in the DACH market — measured as citation share, published every quarter.

The index

One number for the channel no one can see.

Buyers ask an assistant who the best provider is before they ever reach a vendor's site. The AI Visibility Index turns that hidden moment into a published, comparable ranking — so a category leader can prove it, and a challenger can see exactly how far it has to climb.

Methodology

How the ranking is built.

An index is only as trustworthy as its method. Ours is published in full and re-run identically every edition.

01

Define the prompt battery

For each category we lock a versioned set of 120+ real buyer-intent prompts — the questions a DACH buyer actually asks an assistant before a shortlist (“best CRM for German SMBs”, “GDPR-compliant payroll software”). The battery is published with every edition.

02

Query four engines

Each prompt is run against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews from a neutral DACH context, capturing which vendors are named, cited and recommended in the generated answer.

03

Score citation share

We count every brand mention and weight it by position, recommendation strength and number of engines. A vendor's citation share is its weighted slice of all named recommendations in its category — not ad spend, not classic SEO rank.

04

Track movement over editions

Because the prompt battery is versioned and editions are dated, every ranking change is comparable quarter over quarter. The trend column shows direction since the previous edition.

05

Publish openly

Each edition is published in full — leaderboard, methodology and prompt battery — so it can be cited by the engines themselves. The index is designed to be the source AI quotes when buyers ask who leads a category.

Why it's a real signal

Not a vibe. A measured, repeatable number.

Citation share, not ad spend

The leaderboard measures how often an engine names and recommends a vendor in its answer — the surface where buyers now form a shortlist — not who buys the most keywords or backlinks.

DACH-native prompts

The prompt battery is built for the German-speaking market: GDPR, German SMB structures, German-language queries and local vendors most global indexes ignore.

Four engines, one number

We don't cherry-pick a single assistant. Every vendor is scored across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, so the ranking reflects where buyers actually ask.

Versioned and provable

Each edition ships with its prompt set and date. Movement is reproducible, not a snapshot you have to take on faith — the same rigour we bring to client citation tracking.

FAQ

Questions about the index.

What is the AI Visibility Index?

The AI Visibility Index is a quarterly published ranking of which B2B SaaS vendors AI assistants name most often in the DACH market. It measures citation share across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews for CRM, HR & Payroll and Marketing Automation — on a versioned, buyer-intent prompt battery.

How is citation share measured?

Citation share is a vendor's weighted slice of all brand recommendations an engine gives for its category. We run a fixed prompt battery against four engines, count every mention and weight it by position, recommendation strength and number of engines. We measure AI recommendations — not ad spend or classic search ranking.

Which engines and categories are covered?

Edition 01 covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews across three DACH B2B SaaS categories: CRM, HR & Payroll and Marketing Automation. Further engines and categories follow in later editions.

How often does the index appear?

Quarterly. Each edition is dated and versioned together with its prompt battery, so ranking movements between editions are reproducible and comparable over time.
